The Shinty Preview – Saturday 28 April 2012 | |
27 April 2012 There is a mixture of league and cup action on Saturday 28 April 2012. Co-operative MacTavish Cup – Quarter Finals Beauly v Glenurquhart Following last week’s postponement, Glenurquhart make the short trip to Braeview Park to play Beauly. The home side was boosted by Sean Stewart’s return from injury for the second team a fortnight ago and he will give them another attacking option when fully fit. Innes Simpson remains on the injury list. David Smart will be fit to play for Glenurquhart despite losing teeth whilst scoring a double in the win over Fort William two weeks ago. The additional week’s break allows Ruairidh Cameron, who suffered concussion in the same game, the chance to play. Arran MacDonald will return following a bout of flu but David Girvan and Paul MacKintosh remain longer term absentees. Throw up is at 12 noon.
Balliemore Cup – First Round Skye Camanachd v Lochcarron There will be the first local derby of the season for Skye Camanachd and Lochcarron as the sides meet in the first round of the Balliemore Cup. The Islanders have a doubt over Steven Morrison but the good news for Skye boss Willie MacRae is that Morrison is making good progress after sustaining a knee injury against Lochaber last week. Lochcarron manager Andrew MacKenzie should have Ross Matheson and Ben Dalgety back. Both missed last week’s defeat to Inverness with flu. MacKenzie will also decide whether to restore Kenny Ross between the sticks or play Douglas MacKenzie in goal which will allow Ross an outfield role. Oban Camanachd v Strathglass Oban Camanachd may not be familiar with the Balliemore Cup but they will be amongst the favourites for this year’s competition. They welcome Strathglass to Mossfield. The visitors should welcome George Phimmister back in their line-up after he missed the last two games.

This will be the second successive Saturday in which the Islanders have faced cup holders having put Newtonmore out of the Strathdearn Cup in Portree last weekend. The Islanders miss keeper Kevin Queen and midfielder James Craig who both serve the second game of a two match ban. David Whitelaw is also suspended. Throw up is at 1pm. Fort William v Lovat Fort William and Lovat clash at the Black Parks. Fort William will be without Gary Innes who is playing with his band Manran. However Bryan Simpson should be back in contention. Throw up is at 3pm. Inveraray v Kingussie The match between Inveraray and Kingussie was switched to the Winterton as the Dell is unable to take two matches. However Jones will have to do without Louis Munro who serves a one match ban. Throw up is at 3.30pm Kyles Athletic v Kilmallie Kyles Athletic host Kilmallie at Strachur with both sides feeling the effects of suspension.
