Pre-season Shinty Friendly Results - UPDATED!! | |
26 February 2012 A number of pre-season shinty friendlies went ahead despite the wet weather on Saturday 25 February 2012. Skye Camanachd 3 Lovat 4 Lovat retained the Thomas Ferguson Memorial Cup when they came from 3-1 down to beat Skye Camanachd 4-3 at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. Greg Matheson gave Lovat a 3 minutes lead but a rocket shot from Danny Morrison squared the game 6 minutes later. Goals from Jordan Murchison and Gilleasbuig MacDonald gave Skye a 3-1 lead at the break. However Lovat took control in the second half and a double from Scotland U21 international James MacPherson and another from Greg Matheson sealed a 4-3 win for the Balgate side. Glenurquhart 0 Fort William 1 Glenurquhart suffered defeat for the first time this pre-season when the lost 1-0 to Fort William at Blairbeg. Fort boss Peter McIntyre took a much changed side to Drumnadrochit for the game with several of the club’s younger players getting their chance. This was a good, competitive encounter and a good work-out for both sides. The teams cancelled eachother out for much of the game and a first half strike from Gary Innes was all that separated the sides. Beauly 3 Glenurquhart 0 Earlier in the day the Beauly reserve side beat the Glenurquhart second string 3-0 at Braeview Park. All the goals came in the second half with Scott MacLean, Calum Morrison and Jack MacDonald on target for the home side. Glasgow Mid Argyll 2 Kyles Athletic 5 Kyles Athletic beat Glasgow Mid Argyll 5-2 at Yoker. Craig Anderson and Andy Mathie netted for the home side but a Roddy MacDonald hat-trick and strikes from Tom Whyte and Gordon Whyte gave Kyles victory. Kingussie 3 Oban Camanachd 1 Kingussie continued their pre-season preparations when they beat Oban Camanachd 3-1 at the Dell. Lee Bain was on target again for the Kings whilst Fraser Munro and Greg Dawson got the others. Strathspey Camanachd 0 Lovat 6 Strathspey were originally to play a friendly against Ballachulish but this match was called off because of a bereavement. A game against Lovat was quickly arranged but the league’s newest side found their Marine Harvest North Division 2 opponents to be a strong proposition and they went down 6-0. Jamie Matheson was top scorer with a hat-trick, Rory Campbell netted twice and Bradley MacHardie got the others. Kinlochshiel & Lochcarron The Kinlochshiel and Lochcarron players took part in a round-robin tournament at the all-weather pitch in Plockton. Kinlochshiel fielded two sides and Lochcarron fielded one team. The ‘Shiel B team came out on top on goal difference. Kilmallie Firsts v Seconds There was a good turnout at the Canal Parks where the Kilmallie first and second team players met in a practice match. Taynuilt P Fort William P The friendly between Taynuilt and the Fort William second team was called off. Lochbroom P Lewis Camanachd P The Minch Cup meeting between Lochbroom and Lewis Camanachd was postponed. This link will be updated if we hear of any other pre-season results. |
