Lochcarron 0 Skye Camanachd 3 - UPDATED | |
13 May 2012 Skye Camanachd beat Lochcarron 3-0 in their Marine Harvest North Division 1 meeting at Battery Park on Saturday 12 May 2012. Skye manager Willie MacRae made four changes from the squad which beat Caberfeidh last weekend. Iain Nicolson returned and he started on the bench. Recent signing Iain Munro from SCOTS Camanachd replaced the unavailable Aonghas MacDonald in goal. Ally “Spod” MacLeod was also included after his return from a hand injury and Iain Grant was also back. Chris Rose, Allan MacLeod and Iain MacLellan returned to the second team. The game came too early for Gilleasbuig MacDonald, who has a hand injury, and Shaun Hedley also remained on the sidelines. Iain Murray started at full centre for Skye whilst Neil MacVicar’s two goals against Caberfeidh last week meant he continued in attack. Lochcarron manager Andrew MacKenzie had defender Ross Matheson free from his one match ban but he was not in their squad and nor was Angus MacKay. Kenny Ross started in attack with Mark Sproule and Douglas MacKenzie continued in goal. Crisdean Finlayson missed out with an ankle injury but Gregor Cushnie started up front after scoring a hat-trick for the reserve side in their noon throw up against the Kilmallie second string. Allan “Ham” MacKenzie was switched from full back to full forward and Finlay Stark was at full centre. Skye took the lead on 33 minutes when a Danny Morrison shot was saved by Lochcarron keeper Douglas MacKenzie and Neil MacVicar followed up to flick the ball into the net. Both Neil MacVicar and Ally MacDonald saw shots shave the post in the first half as Skye looked to build on the lead. Skye were forced to introduce Ally “Spod” MacLeod in place of the injured Jamie MacDonald at the interval. Skye’s second goal came on 55 minutes when an Ally MacDonald snap-shot from 10 yards beat MacKenzie to nestle in the left hand side bottom corner of the net. Ally MacDonald got his second and Skye’s third goal on 66 minutes. Iain Morrison won the ball in midfield and slipped it forward to Jordan Murchison who had come deep to collect the pass. Murchison caught the ball on the volley from half way up the park and played it forward to the edge of the D where Ally MacDonald got on the end of it and knocked the ball past MacKenzie into the net to make it 3-0. The closest Lochcarron came was a Kenny Ross shot which came off the crossbar in the second half. Lochcarron keeper Douglas MacKenzie kept his side in the games with some fine saves. Skye’s new keeper Iain Munro did not have too much to do but he dealt well with any pressure on the Skye goal. Skye’s Shockie MacLennan picked up a yellow card from referee Callum Duff for dangerous swinging. Steven Morrison was inspirational at the back for Skye whilst the forwards overall display impressed manager Willie MacRae. The win takes Skye to second place in the table, a point behind leaders Lochaber. Next up for the Islanders is a trip to the Bught Park to play Inverness.
