Lochaber 3 Skye Camanachd 4 | |
21 March 2012 Skye Camanachd returned from Spean Bridge with both points following their 4-3 Marine Harvest North Division 2 victory over Lochaber on Saturday 17 March 2012. Skye Camanachd second team manager Murdo Morrison made four changes to the squad which beat Lovat the previous week. Paul MacKinnon, Alan Palmer and John Angus MacInnes were all on first team duty whilst Ian MacPherson dropped out of the squad. However Chris MacLennan returned after injury. Iain Nicolson was also available whilst Stewart Grant and Calum Gibb were also added to the squad. Iain Nicolson’s inclusion was a particular boost. His work schedule meant he was unable to travel to Portree for the first team game against Strathglass and he made a spectacular impact at the start of this match. With less than 5 minutes gone, Skye led 3-0 and Nicolson, who started at full forward, notched all three goals. It was a better start than Skye could have dreamt off but they had to fight off a determined Lochaber side who were keen to get back in the game. When Lochaber did score it was through youngster Stuart Matheson, who played for the North U14 team against the South U14 side in 2011. Skye extended their lead in the second half thanks to a Chris Rose strike which made it 4-1. Rose started in the forward line and this was his first goal for the Skye reserves. Again Lochaber fought back and they were awarded a penalty by referee Neil Ferguson. However Skye keeper John MacLeod saved Keith Neville’s spot-hit. Skye were thankful of this goal cushion when Lochaber countered with a late double from Keith Neville but they held on to their single goal advantage to take both points. Skye have now taken six points from their opening three games and it is Kingussie at the Dell next for the Islanders.
