After Match Reaction To Skye Camanachd’s Win Over Kingussie | |
11 July 2012 There was after-match reaction from Chris Rose, Michael Falconer and Donnie Martin following Skye Camanachd’s 5-1 Marine Harvest North Division 2 win over Kingussie at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 7 July 2012 Skye full centre Chris Rose was a top performer in the game and he said, “I really enjoyed the run-out and being involved today. The second team has had a couple of league defeats recently so this win was important for their confidence. We scored some good goals against some experienced players and fitness is a big thing for the team, especially on what is a big pitch. The training we did with Willie MacRae at the start of the season has got us in good shape.” Rose is one of Skye’s top footballers and he has returned to shinty at the start of the season and he explained how that came about. “I came along to shinty training at the start of the season to get myself fit for the football season. I picked up a stick for the first time in 8 years and I’ve really enjoyed it. I’m now the fittest I’ve been in years.” Rose will be involved with the Skye Camanachd first team in their Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup tie with Kyles Athletic this coming Saturday. “It’s a big game next week. I hope we can get a big crowd behind and we want to do well against one of the Premiership’s top sides.” Kingussie manager Michael Falconer knew his team had had a tough afternoon. “That was a tough shift for us. We were six or seven short today and we had a mixture of a couple of old heads and some very young lads. We knew we would be up against it but we had a chance at 2-1 but we then lost some silly goals.” Falconer agreed that there is plenty for the Kings to play for this season. “We have a Sutherland Cup Final coming up and we will have all our players back for that. We haven’t got a game this coming Saturday and we hope to have our full squad for the trip to Lochaber the week after. We’ve played some good shinty over the last four or five weeks, good following shinty, and if we can keep that going, then there is no reason why we can’t win the final.” Skye Camanachd caretaker boss Donnie Martin was happy with his team’s performance. “It was a good win but we had to work hard for it. We started off very well and we built up a 2-0 lead. We had most of the first half, pressure-wise and possession-wise but we only had two goals to show for it when we turned around. We expected Kingussie to come back at us in the second half and they did and they made it 2-1. At that stage, the next goal was very, very important and luckily for us, Alan got it with a cracker. We went from strength to strength then and finished up at 5-1 and we are very happy with that. It was a good performance all round and having Ginger and Crick in the team gave us some strength that we would not normally have had.” |
