Stuart Reid To Continue As Scotland Ladies Head Coach | |
02 May 2014 The Women's Camanachd Association has confirmed that Stuart Reid will continue in the role of Scotland Women's Shinty Head Coach for a second year. The Glenurquhart defender made an instant impression after taking on the role ahead of the 2013 shinty season and he led the Women’s squad to an impressive victory over a quality Dublin squad at the Bught Park in October 2013. As well as being a regular in Glenurquhart’s first team squad, Stuart Reid has a wealth of playing and coaching experience:
Stuart Reid said, ''I am very proud and excited to be coaching the Scotland Women's Squad again this year. The girls excelled themselves in defeating a very strong Dublin team last year, and we are under no illusions about how difficult this year’s match will be against an even stronger team on their own turf. Along with my coaching team of Scott Campbell, Eoghan Stewart and Yvonne Connaughton, I will be able to watch every single team play at least once this year, and I look forward to welcoming all players to attend the three open training sessions which we have scheduled." The 2014 Women's Squad will travel to Newry in Northern Ireland along with the Men's Senior and U21 Squads on the weekend of 25 / 26 October 2014 to face Irish Camogie opposition as they look to continue their 2013 success. Preparations for 2014 squad selection are already underway with open training sessions scheduled over the next few months. Stuart Reid has also been attending women's league matches around the country and will continue to do so to view prospective Scotland players in a match environment. All players are invited to participate in the opens training sessions. Stuart Reid said, ' I cannot stress enough that all players and coaches are welcome to attend, even if going for the International Squad is not your main aim.' The training sessions will focus on player development as well as providing both players and coaches with ideas of skills, drills and techniques that they can reuse in their own clubs. There is an open invitation to all players to attend training sessions on the following dates: Sunday 18 May 2014 – 1pm to 4pm at Yoker Park, Glasgow These open training sessions will form part of the selection process for the 2014 Scotland Squad, along with game observations.
