18 May 2014 Three Skye Camanachd teams were in action over the course of this week. After three consecutive away matches, the Skye Camanachd first team had an RBS MacTavish Plate semi final meeting with Inverness at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 17 May. The Islanders booked a place in the final with a 3-1 victory in a match played in difficult conditions. Will Cowie shot low into the net to give Skye a 4 minute lead. However Inverness bounced straight back and Martin Davidson levelled after 12 minutes. Shockie MacLennan continued his good scoring run when he made it 2-1 after 25 minutes. Inverness were never out of the tie but when Skye were awarded a penalty on 83 minutes for a kick inside the D, Will Cowie confidently blasted the spot-hit high into the net to make it 3-1. Skye will face Marine Harvest National Division side Fort William in the RBS MacTavish Plate Final on Saturday 7 June. Before that, the Skye Camanachd second team drew 1-1 with Glengarry in their Marine Harvest North Division 2 noon clash at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. Both sides had early chances before a brilliant turn and explosive shot from Angie MacDonald gave Skye a 31 minute lead. The Islanders had the better of the first half but it was a different story in the second period. Daniel MacLennan collected a clearance out of the Skye defence and fired a 25 yard shot into the net to level on 48 minutes. A brilliant Iain MacLeod save just under the crossbar denied Daniel MacLennan a winner and earned Skye a share of the points. The Skye Camanachd Ladies were not in action. Skye Camanachd U17 had a London Shield match with Caberfeidh U17 at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Tuesday 13 May. The Skye youngsters ran out 4-1 winners. Callum MacCulloch put Cabers ahead of 28 minutes but Will Cowie levelled with a well-executed penalty on 37 minutes. Conor Ross put Skye in front with a great shot a minute later. Will Cowie made it 3-1 with the goal of the match on 56 minutes. The Skye full centre won possession wide on the Skye right before sending a blistering shot into the far top corner of the net. A turn and shot from Conor Ross made it 4-1. The Skye Camanachd A U14 and Skye Camanachd B U14 sides were not in action because of the Primary 7 school trip. |
