Skye Camanachd 7 Lochcarron 4 | |
14 June 2021 The Skye Camanachd second beat Lochcarron 7-4 in their Mowi North League A derby at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 12 June 2021. Lochcarron manager Murdo John Fraser travelled with just twelve players as a mixture of work commitments and injuries ruled out the likes Ross Matheson, Gregor Cushnie and Kenny Cushnie. With no first team game, Skye gave Iain MacLellan some game time and Gilleasbuig MacDonald returned to the side. Iain Kennedy was the referee for this 2.30pm throw up and the whole match was broadcast LIVE on Radio Skye’s “Camanachd LIVE” show. The game was played under current restrictions which meant supporters were not permitted to attend. Skye played towards the Skeabost end of the ground in the first half and Iain MacLellan gave them a 10 minute lead with a low shot from the left following good play from Archie MacDonald. Lochcarron fought back and Calum Dean Morris levelled just 4 minutes later when he forced the ball home after Skye failed to clear a corner from the right. Niall Arnott put Lochcarron in front on 17 minutes, scoring following a free-hit on the left. The visitors extended their lead on 25 minutes after a counter-attacking move with Calum Dean Morris firing a shot from the right across keeper Murphy Henderson and into the net to make it 3-1. Skye had a chance to reduce the deficit when Daniel Morrison played a clever ball to an unmarked Taylor Matheson but Iain Cameron was quickly off his line to save. Skye needed a goal and with just 5 first half minutes remaining, Iain MacLellan took a pass from Taylor Matheson, following Daniel Morrison’s corner from the left, and he tucked the ball inside the post to cut Lochcarron’s lead to 3-2 at the break. Skye made a great start to the second half with Taylor Matheson levelling the contest with a smart, low shot on 47 minutes after Iain MacLellan’s strike deflected into his path. Skye lost defender Neil John Campbell to a knock to the knee so Calum Gibb came on at wing centre with Sam Macphee dropping back into defence. A superb strike from wide on the left from skipper Ian MacPherson extended Skye’s lead on 62 minutes. MacPherson took a touch following Daniel Morrison’s short pass and he sent the ball sailing high into the net. Daniel Morrison’s birthday goal came a couple of minutes later as he made space before sending a firm strike from outside the D on the right past the keeper’s outstretched right foot to made it 5-3. Iain MacLellan got in behind the Lochcarron defence but sent his shot over the bar then substitute Archie Millar had a chance from the right of the D but his effort hit the post. Lochcarron fought back and Peter MacKenzie hammered home a fierce strike after turning inside from the left on 86 minutes to make it 5-4. However Skye added two more goals at the death as substitute James Robertson finished well on 88 minutes. Gilleasbuig MacDonald played the ball wide on the right to Iain MacLellan who cut the ball inside to the onrushing Robertson who took a touch into the D before tucking the ball past the keeper.
