Skye Camanachd 3 Lochaber 2 (after extra time) – After Match Reaction | |
22 April 2014 Both camps gave their reaction following Skye Camanachd’s 3-2 extra time win over Orion Group Premiership side Lochaber at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 19 April 2014. Speaking on Cuillin FM’s Camanachd Live programme after the game, Lochaber boss Robert Johnstone was gracious in defeat and he said, “The better team won on the day. We didn’t put the effort in and we looked very, very tired all the way through the game and we got what we deserved. The opening goal took us all a bit by surprise the way it looped into the net but we went very flat after that. I thought we could keep the momentum going after getting the goal at the end of full time. But it went flat again and as soon as Skye scored their third goal it seemed to be game over. Lochaber were missing Martin Johnstone and Zandz Ferguson and Johnstone added, “We could have done with these players but the young boys we have in the team have put a massive effort and although they were second best today but they are good players.” Turning his thoughts to the Orion Group Premiership, the Lochaber boss said, “We’ve played well in spells but we have to build on that and do it for the 90 minutes.”
Skye Camanachd’s two goal hero Will Cowie also gave his reaction to Cuillin FM’s Camanachd Live Show after the game. He said, “It was a good game and a good result. Lochaber are obviously a couple of divisions above us but it was a great performance from all the team and a well deserved result and we are through to the next round.” Reflecting on the match, Cowie said, “It was disappointing to lose such an early goal but we recovered straight away. We got the goal back from the penalty and then got ahead and I thought we coped well. Even after they got the equaliser late on, we did well in extra time and our fitness showed through, We don’t let our heads go down this season and that is a big difference compared to last year; that and our fitness. We knew we were fit enough to do it. The goal early in extra time helped us settle and it’s a big result for us.” Will Cowie was once again named in the Scotland U17 squad for the summer tour of Ireland and it’s something he is looking forward to. He added, “It’s a great experience and a great opportunity again. I’m delighted to get picked. It’s good to be going out there with all the other young boys and hopefully I’ll use it to carry on improving this season and do my bit to get a Scotland a couple of wins against the Irish.” |
