Shinty Stick Suppliers To Manufacture Left-Handed Camans | |
01 April 2015 Several of shinty’s major shinty stick suppliers have got together to manufacture prototype left-handed shinty sticks. For many years now, left-handed shinty players have had to adjust their game to play with right-handed sticks. However they will now benefit from this new development which has been funded by sportscotland. The concept has been embraced by stick manufacturers such as Kyles Camans in Tighnabruaich and Tanera Camans which has recently been taken over by Lovat player Alan MacPherson. However Munro Camans are believed to be less enthusiastic about the idea. The new specially designed camans will be available for sale shortly. The Shinty Shop will also play their role, supplying specially designed left-handed grip for the new camans. Left-handed hurling sticks were introduced by the GAA a number of years ago and it is a move the Camanachd Association has been keen to replicate. New Camanachd Association President Jim Barr threw his full support behind the idea. He said, “I really don’t understand why someone hasn’t thought of this before. It has been a blight on shinty that we have been unable to cater for the game’s many left-handed shinty players. However they now have the chance to face right-handed players and go toe-to-toe with them on an equal footing. And I would say this to any critics; it’s not as daft an idea as Iomain.” |
