Beauly U17 2 Skye Camanachd U17 0 - UPDATED! | |
15 June 2015 Beauly U17 won the MacTavish Juvenile Cup after they beat Skye Camanachd U17 2-0 at the Bught Park on Saturday 13 June 2015. Skye Camanachd U17 Youth Coach Davie Pringle was without second team player Ross Nicolson who continued to be sidelined with a broken collar bone. Full forward Ruairidh MacLeod missed out with the recurrence of a hand injury whilst Sean MacCallum was at an Army Cadet Camp. Caitlin MacLean, Stewart Taylor and Sam MacPhee all returned to the squad and there was a place for Ryan Macaskill. Beauly U17 Youth Coach Neil Brindle named a strong squad for this 1pm throw up. Forward Sandy Elrick had broken into the Beauly first team squad and Robbie Brindle and Andrew Morrison are main-stays of the team. Brindle was also able to call on the services of Lovat player player Scott MacKenzie as the Balgate team do not have an U17 side this season. The players were piped out onto the field before being introduced to Camanachd Association President Jim Barr and Martin Girvan from sponsors RBS. Beauly attacked from the throw up and they were ahead within the first 20 seconds. Sandy Elrick collected a ball forward from midfield before playing the ball into the danger-area. Elrick continued his run from the left and gathered possession before beating a defender and slotting the ball past Skye keeper Ryan Morrison to give his side the perfect start. Beauly had an early chance to double their lead when they were awarded a penalty for a kick inside the Skye D but Ryan Morrison saved the spot-hit with his feet. Beauly dominated the first half but Skye defended well and when Beauly did create chances, they found Skye keeper Ryan Morrison to be in top form and he made three excellent saves to keep his side in the game. With the rain continuing to steadily fall, Beauly continued to press in the second half. The Skye forwards saw more of the ball after the break but they found the Beauly defence to be a formidable barrier. Beauly sealed the win 4 minutes from time when the ever-dangerous Robbie Brindle collected possession around 25 yards from goal and he made just enough space before sending a great strike into the Skye net to make it 2-0. A late Ryan Morrison save with his feet stopped Beauly adding a third. Skye goalie Ryan Morrison was awarded the Sandy MacKay Medal as the game’s outstanding player and he made several excellent saves during the final. Beauly were deserved winners and their captain Andrew Morrison was presented with the MacTavish Juvenile Cup by Martin Girvan. Skye will take many positives from the game, especially with so few of their squad players being ineligible next season.
