01 November 2010 Ireland U21 came out on to in the Shinty / Hurling international against Scotland U21 at Ratoath on Saturday 30 October 2010. The match was late in starting as the Women’s international which preceded this game was held up for 30 minutes following a nasty injury to the Scot’s Fiona Mathie. Fortunately Mathie was able to join her tem-mates later in the day following hospital treatment. Scotland started with the wind at their backs but it was the Irish who scored the first 2 points of the day. However, Scotland fought back to find the back of the net through Kyle’s Athletic’s Tom Whyte which meant the visitors went into the break with a (0-2) 2–3 (1-0) lead. The Scot’s interval advantage could have been greater and they were left to rue four missed 2 point opportunities. Ireland scored 3 goals at the start of the second half which made it difficult for Scotland to recover. Meath’s Neil Henderson scored two of them and Kerry’s Darragh O’Connell got the other. Kilmallie’s Michael Rodger, who captained the Scottish side, scored a 2 pointer and Oban Camanachd’s Scott MacMillan got another in what was an even remainder of the game. However it was Ireland who ran out (3-6) 15–6 (1-3) winners. Scotland were well served by Michael Rodger, Lovat’s Daniel Grieve and Newtonmore pair Rory Kennedy and Owen Fraser. |
