11 May 2010 Skye Camanachd A U14 fought back from 3-0 down to earn a draw against Kinlochshiel at Kirkton in their Local League clash on 15 May 2010.
Skye were missing Euan Forrest so coach Willie Cowie added Stevie MacKinnon and Chris Campbell to the squad.
Shiel started strongly and Ewan Falconer at full back, full centre Conall Fraser and buckshee forward Oliver MacRae were all influential players. Alasdair Nixon also made a significant contribution on the wing.
A couple of defensive lapses and some good finishing saw Shiel race in to a 3-0 first half lead.
Aiden MacRae scored their opener and Duncan Newton Grant added a second.
Aiden MacRae netted his second to give a three goal half time lead.
The home side also hit the post on 2 occasions in the first half although Skye’s DJ Gilpin also hit the frame of the Shiel goal during the first period.
Skye took Iain MacLeod out of goal and replaced him with Chris Campbell at half time.
MacLeod took up the full forward position in a move which was to pay dividends as he beat Shiel keeper Hugh MacRae to reduce the deficit to 3-1.
Skye’s Alex MacDonald was next to score and his strike reduced Shiel’s advantage to a single goal.
Iain MacLeod completed a fantastic comeback when he scored his second to level the match at 3-3.
Skye’s Will Cowie and Alex MacDonald also hit the woodwork in the second half as the Islanders came close to nicking both points.
Will Cowie at full centre and buckshee back Mark Mortimer were top performers for Skye. Ruaraidh Morrison also did well and Iain MacLeod took his goals well in what was a much better team performance than against Lochcarron last week.
The outcome of the Local League should be decided when the Skye and Kinlochshiel youngsters meet at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. This match will likely take place next week. |
