Newtonmore retained the Scottish Hydro Premier Division title in the most dramatic fashion and Oban Camanachd won but were relegated following the shinty matches played on Saturday 19 November 2011.
Kyles Athletic 1 Newtonmore 2
Newtonmore retained the Scottish Hydro Premier Division title thanks to a Danny MacRae goal 4 minutes into injury time as they beat Kyles Athletic 2-1 at Dunoon. Dunkie Kerr scored the only goal of the first half on the stroke of half time. However Danny MacRae leveled the game 4 minutes into the second period. The second half remained scoreless into the closing stages and the draw would have meant that Kyles only required a point from their final league game against Kingussie to win the national title for the first time. The game was 4 minutes into injury time when there was a huge scramble in front of the Kyles goal and ‘More’s Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final hero Danny MacRae forced the ball over the line to ensure the league trophy remains in the Newtonmore trophy cabinet.
Oban Camanachd 4 Kilmallie 2
Oban Camanachd put up a brave fight against Kilmallie but they were unable to get the seven goal victory required to preserve their top division status. Iain MacMillan put the home side ahead on 18 minutes but they suffered a blow when Peter McIntyre made it 1-1 just 5 minutes before the break. Oban Camanachd regained the lead through Matt Rippon a couple of minutes into the second half but again Kilmallie came back and John Stewart made it 2-2 on 51 minutes. Aidan MacIntyre on the hour mark and Scott MacMillan 4 minutes later gave Oban hope but they were unable to add to their tally and their 4-2 win was not enough to avoid the drop. Oban Camanachd now join Glenorchy in Marine Harvest South Division 1 with the Oban side’s reserve team Lochside Rovers dropping into Marine Harvest South Division 2.
