This week's Strathspey and Badenoch Herald takes a look down memory lane back to Thursday 30 October 1986.
The paper reports that 13 year old Kingussie tennis prospect Ronald Ross became the youngest winner of the local Sports Personality of the Year award.
A public vote put Ronald Ross at the top of the poll in a competition run jointly with Badenoch and Strathspey District Sports Council.
Ross pipped Badenoch shinty stars Sandy Dey of Kingussie and David Ritchie of Newtonmore to secure top spot. He was presented with his trophy at the Sports Council's Annual General Meeting at the Carrbridge Hotel.
Ronald Ross took up tennis at 8 years old and became a member of the Scottish squad, training regularly with them at Largs and Edzell.
He won all his matches in the North junior team for under-17s and he took the junior title at both the Kingussie and Grantown tournaments. He was also first year athletics champion at Kingussie High School.
I wonder whatever became of him!
