You’re Favourites, No You Are Favourites! | |
16 September 2011 Both the Newtonmore and Kingussie camps are keen to portray their opponents as favourites in the lead up to the 2011 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final at the Bught Park, Inverness on Saturday 17 September 2011. It seems the sides have been playing out a physiological battle in the media ahead of the game. Kingussie boss Stevie Borthwick told the Strathspey & Badenoch Herald, “Undoubtedly, Newtonmore are by far the favourites, they have a much bigger squad and a very mature team. They are probably at the top of their game at the moment.” However Norman MacArthur said in the Press & Journal, “How can we be favourites when we haven’t won the cup for 25 years while Kingussie have been the team to beat in this competition, winning it 14 times in the last 25 years?” At the end of the day, the favourites tag could count for little as Norman MacArthur told the West Highland Free Press, “Everyone knows that form can count for nothing in cup finals, especially when you are playing you biggest rivals.” |
