The Shinty Preview. | |
04 December 2009 There are only 2 matches in the Scottish Hydro Premier Division on Saturday 5 December 2009 but there is so much at stake both at the top and bottom of the table. The Scottish Hydro Premier Division championship will be decided when Kingussie take on Kyles Athletic. The match was originally scheduled for Tighnabruaich, however the pitch was deemed unplayable. Dunoon was investigated as an alternative venue but it had been booked by the local football club. Therefore the match now goes ahead at Oban Camanachd’s Mossfield and a win for the King’s will mean that they retain the title and first team manager Jimmy Gow’s tenure will end on a high. Any other outcome will mean that Newtonmore are champions. Kingussie have not played since they beat Newtonmore on 7 October 2009 and they will be without the suspended Ally MacLeod. The experienced Rory Fraser will likely deputise at full back. Kingussie will no doubt rely on the prolific Ronald Ross but James Hutchison will also have an important role to play. Kyles could yet finish third in the table and they have already beaten Kingussie twice this season – once in the league and of course in the Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup semi final. There appears to be a bit of needle between the sides and Kyles will not visit Oban to just be play second fiddle. U21 international Grant Irvine will be a key player for the men from Tighnabruaich. Meantime Newtonmore will be holding their Annual of Sale Work as the afternoon unfolds. No doubt score updates will be fed back to Norman MacArthur and his players and they could yet have a league title to celebrate. Inveraray were due to play All other leagues are now complete as the points in any outstanding matches have been shared between the clubs’ concerned. |
