Camanachd Association Promote Shinty Taster Sessions in the South. | |
28 November 2009 Argyll and Bute Shinty Development Officer Darren Reid, assisted by local Active Schools Co-ordinators and coaches, has held several Homecoming Shinty Taster Sessions during the months of September 2009 and October 2009. The sessions have attracted over 1,500 school children from the Argyll and Bute Council area from 56 Primary Schools and 1 Nursery School. These sessions provided an excellent opportunity for children who had not experienced shinty to take part in the game and also welcomed those who already play the sport. Argyll and Bute Development Officer Darren Reid said, “The success of the Homecoming Taster Sessions is a testament to the organisation and hard work of Schools, Active School Co-ordinators and the coaches involved. It has been a great boost for shinty in the area. The Argyll and Bute Homecoming Budget has also enabled new equipment to be purchased for use within the area and support clubs / schools who are new to the sport. Now it is up to myself, the Camanachd Association and clubs to work together to ensure that there is a clear pathway and opportunity for these kids within the sport to ensure we keep them as lifelong participants in shinty.” For further information on shinty in the Argyll and |
