The Camerons came out on top in a challenge shinty match against the Clan Fraser at An Aird, Fort William on Sunday 2 August 2009.

The event was named the “Clash of the Clans – Grand Shinty Challenge Match” and was a culmination to the events celebrating the International Gathering of Clan Cameron in the Year of Homecoming.

The shinty match involved current players who bear the name of two of the most famous Highland clans. Two previous encounters marking previous Cameron Gatherings produced epic games before large crowds of 600 plus. The matches in 1995 and 2001 resulted in 4-4 and 6-6 draws respectively.

The Camerons eventually ran out 4-0 winners in the 2009 match with Glengarry’s Steven Cameron helping himself to a hat-trick. Fort William’s Aberdein Considine Sutherland Cup hero James Cameron notched their other goal.
