22 July 2009 The MacPhee & Partners Macaulay Cup semi finals take centre stage on Lochaber and Kingussie do battle in the North for a place in the MacPhee & Partners Macaulay Cup final. The sides were to have met at the South sides Inveraray and Oban Camanachd meet at Taynuilt. This is a repeat of the Celtic Society Cup Final in where Inveraray ran out narrow winners however Oban Camanachd won an earlier league meeting between the sides but they go into this game without the suspended Liam MacIntyre. This match throws up at The match of the day in the Scottish Hydro Premier Division is at the Eilan where Newtonmore host Glenorchy may look marooned at the bottom of the table but they have the chance to pick themselves up when Kyles Athletic visit Dalmally. It will be a difficult task though as Kyles won the corresponding match 7-0 earlier in the season. There will be a good match at Meadows, Rothesay when There are an incredible 7 teams challenging for the Marine Harvest North Division 1 title. The match between Caberfeidh and Strathglass at Castle Leod will not go ahead following the death of former player Scott Bain, brother of Strathglass Balliemore Cup hero Lee Bain. Kilmallie will be keen to recover from the disappointment of last week’s home defeat to Caberfeidh but they won’t find it easy against Beauly at There is a west coast derby at Battery Park where bottom club Lochcarron host Kinlochshiel. The home side have yet to win a point this season but if they can take their first half performance against Skye Camanachd last weekend into this game, they will prove to be tough opponents for Shiel. Lochcarron defenders Allan MacKenzie and Daniel MacRae have hamstring problems whilst full centre Michael Cooper suffer a nasty gash to the head in last week’s defeat to Skye. Beaten Balliemore Cup finalists Kinlochshiel also have selection decisions to make in defence. Calum MacLean is unavailable, Crisdean MacRae a long term injury and John Don MacKenzie is nursing a cracked cheekbone. League leaders Skye Camanachd do not have a game. Marine Harvest Second place Kilmory were to travel to play Ballachulish at It’s an early start for Marine Harvest North Division 2 leaders Glenurquhart will be put to the test when fourth placed Lovat visit Drumnadrochit. The visitors have Jimmy MacKenzie and Steven Cameron in fine scoring form with each bagging a hat-trick last weekend. However Glenurquhart have the league’s best defensive record only conceding 8 goals from 11 games. The Glen had a narrow 1-0 win when the sides met at Balgate in March. This match has been switched to a Reigning champions Second place Kingussie host Glengarry at the Dell. The Kings won 3-2 when the sides met at Invergarry in March. Newtonmore will want to follow up last week’s win over Glengarry by taking the points against Caberfeidh at the Eilan. Newtonmore full forward David Wilde has 3 goals in his last 2 league outings. This match has a Kilmallie and Skye Camanachd will both be desperate for the points in their Second place Strachur travel to bottom club Ballachulish in Marine Harvest South Division 2. This match has a Fourth place Aberdour travel to Dalmally to play second bottom Glenorchy and this match also starts at League leaders Taynuilt are at home to sixth place Kyles Athletic play third place Col Glen at Tigh na Bruach. Kyles had an impressive 4-0 win when the sides met in April. The match at Battery Park where Lochcarron host Lochaber in Marine Harvest North Division 3 has been brought forward to Fiday 24 July 2009 with a 7pm throw up. Lochaber had a big win when the sides met at The match between Ardnamurchan and Strathglass has been postponed as a mark of respect following Scott Bain’s death. The Ardnamurchan area has also had its own tragedy this week following the death of 3 fishermen after the fishing boat The Aquila sunk off Ardnamurchan point.
