Kingussie U17 2 Skye Camanachd U17 3. | |
17 July 2009 Skye Camanachd U17 secured a hard earned 3-2 win against Kingussie in the London Shield at Invergarry on Kingussie started the match strongly and 12 year old Savio Genini fired a shot just over. However it was Skye who took an 8 minute lead when they broke up the park and Danny Morrison finished off a move by firing the ball into the net. Martin Dallas was on the end of another Kingussie chance but his shot also went over the bar. The Kings levelled through Ryan Borthwick and shortly afterwards a Martin Dallas shot came back of the post and hit a Skye defender before nestling in the back of the net. Skye defenders Iain Grant, Neil John Campbell and Skye started the second half in much better form and in particular the introduction of Ally “Digg” MacDonald at full forward gave the Islanders a focus in attack. Just 10 minutes into the second half, MacDonald and Danny Morrison combined to set up Jordan Murchison who levelled the match. Kingussie had their moments in the second half but they found Scott MacLeod very assured in the Skye goal. Full centre Neil MacVicar was particularly impressive and he put in a strong second half performance and he dominated the centre line, ably assisted by wing centres Daniel Morrison and Iain Morrison. Danny Morrison and Jordan Murchison were linking up particularly well and their pass and movement was a joy to watch. From one such move, the ball fell to Murchison and he sent a lovely backhand shot into the net for his second and Skye’s winning goal. Skye saw out the rest of the match and this victory gives them 2 wins from their opening 2 London Shield games.
