22 June 2009 There were vital points to play for in the Womens Shinty League on This was Mid-Argyll’s fourth successive league defeat, following a 2-1 midweek loss to Glasgow rivals Tir Conaill Harps – for whom Fiona Mathie scored twice to keep their title hopes on track. In North Division Two Badenoch & Strathspey are one win away from retaining their title after an 11-0 victory against Strathglass at Cannich. The visitors led 5-0 at the break and pulled away in the final quarter to underline their dominance at this level. Karen Hamilton was goal poacher in chief with a personal tally of four – other scorers were Kirsty Deans (3), Jane Nicol (2), Lindsay Deans and Erin McNiven. Strath, who are still the only side to have scored against Badenoch this season, kept their opponents at bay for 15-minute spells in each half but ultimately could not contain the firepower on show from all quarters. In South Central Division Two Tir Conaill Harps’ second team lost their 100 per cent league record in a 2-2 midweek draw with Glasgow Mid-Argyll, but the point they gained thanks to Alison Barclay’s two goals kept them four points clear at the top of the table. |
