Lochaber U17s have won the 2008 WJ Cameron League Cup.

The Spean Bridge side beat Fort William 3-2 in an exciting final on Wednesday 15 April 2009 to lift the trophy. The final was played at An Aird after Fort William won the toss of the coin to decide the venue.

The Lochaber scorers were Stewart Callison, and brothers Ben Delaney and Danny Delaney. Fort William’s Ryan Campbell and Ewan Campbell also found the net.

The match was refereed by Robert Baxter Jnr and he booked Lochaber’s Ben Delaney and Fort William’s Alex Duncan. Fort William had defender Mark Grant sent off after only 11 minutes.

Graham Cormack from the Camanachd Association presented the 2008 WJ Cameron League Cup to delighted Lochaber captain Ben Delaney.

Lochaber last won this competition 30 years ago in 1979. Lochaber coach Ally Ferguson was part of that team – although John Angus Gillies (who was goal judge at this year’s final), has calculated that Ally must have been 20 when the 1979 final took place!! Ally’s son Zander Ferguson was part of the 2008 winning side.
