Skye Camanachd 1 Lochcarron 4 | |
01 March 2009 The Skye Camanachd second team went down to a 4-1 home defeat to Lochcarron in their friendly match at Pairc nan Laoch on Saturday 28 February 2009. Skye, with the wind advantage, had the vast majority of pressure in the first half but only had a single goal advantage to show for their efforts. That came when manager Davie MacVicar moved Iain “Crossal” Nicolson into the centre line and he played a ball forward to Angie MacDonald who turned and blasted the ball into the Lochcarron net. Lochcarron only had one real chance in the first half but young Skye keeper Scott MacLeod reacted well to stop a low drive with his feet. With the Skye Camanachd first team game against Oban Camanachd called off, Skye introduced keeper Jamie Gannon at half time in place of Scott MacLeod. Skye continued to pressure Lochcarron in the second half with Peter Gordon and the hard working Danny Morrson central to their good play. However Lochcarron’s Andrew Slaughter was starting to control the centre line and they shocked the home side when Ian Cameron levelled the match after 65 minutes. Thereafter, Skye seemed to go to pieces and they lost a second goal moments later when Kenny Murray tucked the ball into the net. Within a couple of minutes, Ian Cameron capitalised on hesitancy in the Skye defence to score his second and Lochcarron’s third goal. Five minutes from the end, Kenny Murray scored his second and a victory clinching goal for the North Division 3 side. Skye will wonder how they lost a match which they dominated for the first hour. Lochcarron however, with David McCuish excellent at full back, deserve credit for the determination they showed to stay in the match when things were going against them and taking the chances that eventually came their way. The one thing to be sure of is that there will be no complacency in the Skye camp as travel to Kirkton on Saturday 7 March 2009 to play Kinlochshiel in their opening league fixture of the new shinty season. Should Kirkton be unplayable, the fixture will likely be reversed and played at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. The match was well refereed by Skye Camanachd second team assistant manager Malky Munro.
