The University of the Highlands & Islands shinty team had their first league win of the season in only their second outing on Saturday 24 January 2009.

The team had been due to play Aberdeen University but are now trying to arrange that particular match for next weekend. Instead they rearranged their fixture with Glasgow University and ran out emphatic winners by 13 goals to nil.

Kinlochshiel’s Keith MacRae and Lee Bain from Strathglass were top scorers with 4 goals each. Glenurquhart’s Lewis MacLennan hit a hat-trick and Newtonmore duo Evan Menzies and Calum Binnie scored one a piece. 

This result demonstrates UHI’s intention to challenge leading University side Strathclyde who were 4-1 victors over Glasgow earlier in the season.
