Skye Camanachd First Team Go Down to Battling Defeat Against Glenurquhart. | |
20 September 2008 The Skye Camanachd first team did their manager Ally Morrison proud in his final game in charge as they went down to a battling 4-3 defeat against Glenurquhart. AB Connor had called off on the Saturday morning meaning Skye only had one substitute. The Glen desperately needed the points in their battle with Kilmallie to win the North Division 1 title. They raced into an early 3-0 lead, taking advantages of changes to the Skye defence. Andrew Corrigan got their first with only a minute gone when the ball broke to him 15 yards out, and he shot low to find the net at keeper Aonghas MacDonald's left hand post. A minute later a Billy Urquhart snapsot from 12 yards gave MacDonald no chance. The third was a scrambled effort from Gregor McCormack after 15 minutes. However the Islanders settled down and two goals in two minutes from Somhairle MacDonald (33, 34) brought them back into the match. The first was a brilliant individual effort as he ran from the half way line and fired a rasping 25 yard effort into the roof of the net. The second came when MacDonald chested down a Danny Morrison corner and lashed the ball into the roof of the net. The Glen scored a fourth after 40 when slack Skye defending allowed Billy Urquhart a fine 12 yard finish. Skye replied after 65 minutes when a ball over the top of the defence from Shockie MacLennan found Alan Palmer. Palmer broke clear and his pass was met first time by Ally MacLennan, and his shot gave Stewart MacKintosh in the Glenurquart goal no chance. Aonghas MacDonald was superb in the Skye goal and pulled off a series of terrific saves to keep his team in the match. It was nervous Glen who saw out the remaining minutes. Indeed Skye were unlucky not to find an equaliser in the last minute when a Danny Morrison cross was deflected just past the post by a Glen defende with keeper MacKintosh wrong footed.
