Camanachd Association Chief Operating Officer Torquil MacLeod gave an end of season interview when he spoke to Cuillin FM on a range of matters on Saturday 23 December 2011.
Speaking to Saturday Sports Show presenter Drew Millar, Torquil MacLeod discussed the Camanachd Association’s work with Youth Shinty.
MacLeod described the Camanachd Association’s Youth Shinty structure saying, “We have three full-time Development Officers; Darren Reid in Argyll & Bute, Russell Jones and Ronal Ross who has the national remit. They are working with hundreds of volunteers to keep the youth programme going.”
“We have struggled a little bit to get some of the youth fixtures played this year and that is something we need to look at for next season. Kids have so many commitments and trying to pin teams down to fielding a side on a specific day can be difficult and this is something we need to make more of an effort around for next season.”
“There is a lot of youth shinty being played which is great with some fantastic performances as well. We quite often have double-headers on the Cup Final days with youth finals on before-hand where we see some of the young guys coming through in that capacity. There have been some great games and Skye have been there or there-abouts winning the MacMaster Cup ahead of the 2011 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final.”
