Skye Camanachd U14 B Take Part In Development Tournament Second Phase. | |
25 June 2012 Skye Camanachd U14 B Youth Coach John MacLeod was pleased with his team’s performance in the Scottish Hydro Development Tournament second phase which took place at the Portree High School all-weather pitch on Saturday 23 June 2012. Uist Camanachd led the section with two victories over Skye B and Lochcarron from the opening phase of matches in Kyleakin a fortnight ago. MacLeod went into the tournament against Lochcarron and Uist with a depleted squad as he had to do without the services of Stewart Taylor, Angus MacDonald, Johnny Laing, Ryan O' Halloran, Ruaraidh MacLeod and John MacInnes. Skye B were up against Lochcarron in their first game at 9.30am and they went down 3-1. Skye made a slow start and Lochcarron raced into a 2-0 lead with goals from Gabriel Parsons and Liam Arnott before John Gillies pulled a goal back from the penalty spot. However Lochcarron added a third towards the end through Niall Arnott to seal the points. Next up was the meeting between Lochcarron and Uist and the Islanders continued their good form with a 2-1 win. Joseph MacInnes and Calum Ferguson were on target for Uist whilst Gabrial Parsons countered with a fantastic strike for Lochcarron. Skye B recorded their first win of the series when they beat Uist 1-0 in the final match. Mathew Wood got the goal in first half and the same player came close to making it 2-0 in second half. “We were slow to start in the first game against Lochcarron,” said MacLeod. “But we played a lot better in the game against Uist. This competition gives a lot of the younger players who don’t normally get a chance to play in the Skye Camanachd U14 A team the chance to play shinty and I’m really pleased with how they have done.” Best on the day for Skye B were John Gillies, James Pringle, Marcus Ross, Anna MacDonald and Ross Nicolson.
