Pre-season Shinty Friendly Results | |
19 February 2012 A number of pre-season shinty friendlies went ahead despite the wintery weather on Saturday 18 February 2012. Skye Camanachd 4 Lochside Rovers 0 The Skye Camanachd second team turned in an impressive performance to beat Lochside Rovers 4-0 at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. Danny Morrison scored the only goal of the first half following good lead up play from John Angus MacInnes. Morrison netted his second early in the second half whilst substitutes Iain MacLellan and Paul MacKinnon made it 4-0. The heavy snow showers started to affect the game in the second half and referee Donnie Martin took the sensible decision to end the match early when one set of goals blew over on the hour mark. Glenurquhart 10 Lochcarron 1 Glenurquhart co-manager Fraser MacKenzie saw his side beat former club Lochcarron 10-1 at Blairbeg. Neale Reid was top home marksman with five goals whilst John Barr and Lewis MacLennan bagged doubles. Andrew Corrigan got the other with Kenny Murray replying for Lochcarron. The winning margin could have been greater had it not been for a fine performance in goal by Lochcarron keeper Kenny Ross. The Battery Park side were missing several regulars as Glenurquhart recorded their second success in consecutive weeks against Marine Harvest North Division 1 opposition. Boleskine P Glenurquhart P Meantime the meeting between the Glenurquhart second string and Boleskine at Farr did not go ahead. Lovat 5 Caberfeidh 1 Scottish Hydro Premier Division side Lovat beat Marine Harvest North Division 1 opponents Caberfeidh 5-1 at Balgate. Greg Matheson put the home side ahead after just 6 minutes although Craig Morrison made it 1-1 just 3 minutes later. Greg Matheson was Lovat’s top scorer last season and he went on to complete his hat-trick with a goal 2 minutes into the second half and a 51 minute penalty. Late goals from Martin Bell on 81 minutes and Euan Ferguson a couple of minutes from time sealed a 5-1 victory. Lewis Camanachd 0 Newtonmore 7 There was a big day at Shawbost as Lewis Camanachd hosted 2011 Marine |Harvest North Division 2 champions and Strathdearn Cup holders Newtonmore. There was a good crowd to see this contest on a dry but very windy day. A Newtonmore side including 2011 senior captain Scott Campbell and David Campbell led 5-0 at the break with Calum Stewart getting all of their goals. Stewart capped a great display when he added another in the second half whilst his brother Neil Stewart got the seventh in the final minute. Lewis Camanachd had a Kevin Kennedy goal disallowed. Beauly 3 Kinlochshiel 2 Beauly and Kinlochshiel meet in an 11.30am throw up at Braeview Park. Marine Harvest North Division 1 side Beauly recorded a 3-2 win against their Scottish Hydro Premier Division opponents. Barrie MacDonald, David MacLean and Jack MacDonald were on target for the home side. Keith MacRae and Fraser MacVicar replied for the visitors. Lochaber 1 Bute 3 Lochaber went down 3-1 to Bute at Spean Bridge. Ben Delaney scored the Lochaber goal. Bute were short of substitutes for the game so Lochaber youngster Barry MacDonald helped out by going on their bench. However he came on during the first half and scored Bute third goal. Hector Whitelaw and Robert Walker got the others. Oban Celtic 0 Fort William 2 Graham Campbell and Scott Henderson gave the Fort William second team a 2-0 win over Oban Celtic. Antrim 19 Glasgow Mid Argyll 22 Meantime Glasgow Mid Argyll won their Shinty / Hurling tussle with Antrim in Ireland. Mid Argyll sent over a good side which included Scotland U17 players Finlay MacMillan, who starred in defence, Craig Anderson, who was amongst the goals in attack, and South U17 midfielder Ryan Harrison. In the end the Yoker Park men recorded a fine 22-19 victory. Angus MacIntosh was their top scorer with two goals and two points, closely followed by Craig Anderson with two goals and one point. Ally Andrew and Fulton Ross also each found the back of the net whilst Andy Mathie got their other point. Glengarry P Inverness P The MacBain Memorial Trophy match between Glengarry and Inverness did not go ahead as the pitch at Craigard was waterlogged. This game was to be a first appearance in an Inverness shirt for Inverness’ former Skye Camanachd players Somhairle MacDonald and Dougie Rankin. Strathglass P Oban Camanachd P Caberfeidh P Strathspey Camanachd P The game between Strathglass and Oban Camanachd at Cannich was also postponed as was the meeting between the Caberfeidh second string and Strathspey Camanachd Castle Leod.
