Lochaber Ladies 7 Skye Camanachd Ladies 8 | |
05 June 2012 The Skye Camanachd Ladies returned from Spean Bridge with both points following a dramatic 8-7 win over Lochaber Ladies in their WCA Marine Harvest North Division 2 meeting on Sunday 3 June 2012. 2011 North Division 2 Player of the Year Lorna Macrae and her strike partner Jenna Beaton have been providing the goals for the Islanders and so it proved once again. An early Jenna Beaton strike put the visitors ahead and Beaton then turned provider to set up a chance for Lorna Macrae to make it 2-0. However Lochaber have made a good start to their league campaign and they responded with two Kirsty MacDonald strikes to make it 2-2. Lorna MacRae got her second to put Skye in front again and a Jenna Beaton brace completed her hat-trick and put the Islanders 5-2 in front. Kelly O’Neil pulled a Lochaber goal back only for Lorna MacRae to complete her hat-trick and put Skye 6-3 ahead. Kirsty MacDonald got her second moments before the interval to reduce Skye’s lead to 6-4 at half time. Both teams travelled without substitutes and injury forced Lochaber to play the second half a player short. When Skye’s Jenna Beaton added two more to take her personal tally to five and make it 8-4, the game looked over as a contest. However Lochaber staged a late fight-back and they gave Skye a scare with late goals from Shannon MacDonald and two from Carly Ferguson to make it 8-7. However Skye held on for what could prove to be a crucial win. Skye now have two wins from their three matches played. They beat Lovat 3-1 at Balgate in their opening game before losing 7-5 to Lochaber in Portree. This was league leaders Lochaber’s first defeat of the league campaign. Skye trail the leaders by two points but they have played a game fewer. The league is incredibly tight with only two points separating the first five sides to the six team league.
