WHFP Editor Ian McCormack Retires | |
29 January 2020 Everyone at Skye Camanachd sends their best wishes to Ian McCormack who retires after almost 44 years as editor of the West Highland Free Press. Ian has been reporting on Skye Camanachd matches since he joined the paper in 1975 – he became editor the following year - and few will forget the West Highland Free Press’s first colour supplement in 1990 when Skye won the Camanachd Cup. Ian has served the game of shinty well, especially west coast shinty, reporting with balance and accuracy and he wasn’t afraid to be critical when the situation arose. Ian’s contribution to shinty on Skye was marked in 2016 when he was added to the list of Skye Camanachd Vice Presidents at the club’s Annual General Meeting. The West Highland Free Press became the UK’s only employee-owned newspaper in 2009, something it is rightly proud of. We wish you a long and happy retirement Ian and hope to see you at a Skye Camanachd game soon.
