28 January 2023 The preseason action got underway on Saturday 28 January 2023.
Inverness 0 Kinlochshiel 5 Preseason friendlies between Inverness and Kinlochshiel at the Bught Park are becoming a regular fixture and ‘Shiel ran out 5-0 winners following this year’s encounter. It was a sunny but cold day and this noon throw up was new Kinlochshiel manager Willie MacRae’s first match in charge. He will be without John MacRae for the early part of the season as the Scottish international receives treatment for a back problem. However, Oliver MacRae and Jonnie MacAskill have both returned to the club after spells with Glasgow Mid Argyll. Oliver MacRae marked his return with a goal and Duncan Matheson also netted. Keith MacRae grabbed a hat-trick for a ‘Shiel side who were missing keeper Josh Grant. Kinlochshiel now host a match between their under-30s and over-30s players on Saturday 4 February 2023 before holding an in-house sixes tournament a week later. ‘Shiel take on Kingussie on Saturday 18 February 2023 and have a derby with Skye Camanachd on Saturday 25 February 2023. The venue for both these matches will be decided nearer the time. Meantime the Kinlochshiel second team take on the Strathglass seconds on Saturday 18 February 2023 and then meet Lochcarron the week after.
Skye Lift 2023 Johnstone Trophy Skye Camanachd ran out winners as the Johnstone Trophy, sponsored by Ailsa Johnstone, returned to the Nevis Centre, Fort William on Saturday 28 January 2023. This 5-a-side tournament event, run by Glengarry shinty club, saw the teams split into two groups ahead of a 12.30pm start. After some keenly contested matches, Skye and Badenoch both topped their sections with Inverness B and Glenurquhart also reaching the semi-finals courtesy of their second placed finishes. Badenoch were 6-3 victors against a young Inverness B side in their semi-final whilst Skye defeated Glenurquhart 5-1. Skye have enjoyed recent success in this competition and, with Holly Maclean prolific, they were clinical in the final, running out 8-3 winners over Badenoch and their skipper Rhianna Kirk raised the trophy. Ellen Munro from Ardnamurchan was referees’ Iain Kennedy and Graham Cameron choice as player of the tournament. |
