Lewis Nicol on the half hour and Ruairidh Drake-Reid on 41 minutes gave the visitors four goals at the interval. The visitors started well and Ali Nixon blasted home to give Kinlochshiel the lead although but Savio Genini equalised before half-time when he controlled the ball with his caman before his quick swing sent the ball rocketing into the net. John MacRae used his strength to put ‘Shiel back in front but Kingussie drew level on 75 minutes when wing centre Thomas Borthwick scored to make it 2-2.
Kinlochshiel 2 Kingussie 1 Kingussie took the lead on around the 10 minute mark through Dylan Borthwick but the hosts equalised midway through the first half when Archie MacRae flicked the ball over his marker before running on to score. With no further scoring until the final couple of minutes, it looked like the match would finish in a draw. However, with the last hit of the game, Archie MacRae turned home a rebound off the keeper to give Kinlochshiel the win. Calum Lamont came on for ‘Shiel for his first match for the second team. ‘Shiel lost full centre Jonnie Macaskill around15 minutes from time with a hamstring injury.

Lochcarron P Skye Camanachd P The proposed meeting between Lochcarron and the Skye Camanachd second team did not go ahead as the clubs couldn’t agree a suitable throw up time.
Lovat 0 Kinlochshiel 3 Kinlochshiel made it two preseason wins out of two as they defeated Lovat 3-0 at Balgate on Wednesday 26 May 2021. The visitors took an early lead when Ally Nixon’s deflected shot found the net. And it was Nixon again on 15 minutes, this time pushing the ball past Danny Kelly before firing a rasping shot into the net. ‘Shiel keeper Josh Grant was largely untroubled whilst John MacRae hit the frame of the goal at the other end. Archie Macrae made it 3-0 late in the game. The tussle between Lovat full back Daniel Grieve and Kinloshiel full forward John MacRae was one of the features of the match.
Newtonmore 3 Caberfeidh 0 Newtonmore beat Caberfeidh 3-0 in their final preseason friendly at the Eilan. New signing Max Campbell was on target again, opening the scoring 4 minutes before the interval. ‘More sealed the win through Steven Macdonald’s late brace on 77 and 89 minutes.

Skye Camanachd 1 Lovat 0 Iain MacLellan’s late goal gave Skye Camanachd a 1-0 win in their 1.30pm throw up against Lovat at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. Archie MacDonald, who played well for the Skye Camanachd second team in their win over the Kinlochshiel seconds last weekend, was added to the squad by boss Kenny MacLeod but James Morrison and Daniel Morrison were late call offs. Lovat co-managers Alan MacRae and Jamie Matheson were again without Craig Mainland and they travelled with five substitutes. Skye played in their all-blue change strip whilst Lovat wore their traditional white shirts and black shorts and the visitors played towards the Skeabost end of the ground in the first half. The first serious effort on goal came following a Skye corner on their left and Lovat and Scotland keeper Stuart MacDonald made a quite incredible stop as he leapt to his left to turn away Jordan Murchison’s goal-bound shot which was heading for the top corner of the net. Lovat looked leggy with the preseason friendly against Kinlochshiel the previous Wednesday taking its toll but they settled into the match and when Lewis Tawse won possession, he drifted a shot from distance which just dipped over the crossbar. Skye forced a succession of corners before the break but were unable to turn their dominance into a goal. The closest they came during this period was James Pringle’s strike which keeper MacDonald saved with his legs. Skye’s John Gillies came off to get a head cut attended to after colliding with one of his own players. Jamie Gillies took his place. Lovat’s Duncan Davidson was booked for voicing an opinion ahead of a Jordon Murchison free-hit from which Ross Gordon denied as Stuart MacDonald tipped his effort over the bar. Skye’s John Gillies came back on at the start of the second half whilst Lovat made four changes with Graeme MacMillan, Marc MacLachlan, Chris Johnston and Bailey MacKay replacing Lorne MacKay, Lewis Tawse, Martin Mainland and Danny Kelly. Jordan Murchison fired low but wide of the keeper’s right post after being set up by Iain MacLellan and Ross Gordon volleyed wide after Drew Howie misjudged a ball from the Skye right. Greg Matheson screwed a shot wide of Ryan Morrison’s left post as Lovat began to enjoy their best period of the match. Marc MacLachlan’s introduction added bite to the Lovat attack and he saw a low shot well saved by Ryan Morrison following a free-hit. Ryan Morrison then pulled off a brilliant save as he stretched to tip Greg Matheson’s back-hand shot from distance over the bar. The Skye defence worked tirelessly to keep Lovat at bay and when the hosts went back on the attack, Stuart MacDonald got his body behind substitute Archie MacDonald’s shot from the left. The only goal of this entertaining contest came 6 minutes from time. William MacKinnon broke up a Lovat attack and found Archie MacDonald on the Skye left. MacDonald played the ball on to Ross Gordon who slipped a perfectly weighted pass across to Iain MacLellan on his right and his low shot beat the keeper on his right side with what proved to be the game’s decisive goal.
Strathglass 4 Glenurquhart 2 Strathglass savoured MacDonald Cup success for the first time in 11 years when they beat Glenurquhart 4-2 in their 4pm throw up at Cannich. Glen led 1-0 at the break with James MacPherson scoring the only goal of the first half. Scott Douglas equalised before Penri Jones gave the hosts the lead with around 20 minutes remaining. Glen’s Josh MacDonald-Haig made it 2-2 from the penalty spot on 79 minutes after James MacPherson went through on goal before being brought down by the excellent Josh Fraser inside the D when he looked sure to score. However two goals in the final two minutes from Penri Jones won the match and earned the Strath hat-trick hero the man of the match award. This was a bad tempered encounter at times with Glen full back Ally MacKintosh and Strath full forward Scott Douglas having a no-holds-barred encounter.
Strathglass 3 Glenurquhart 3 The Glenurquhart second team retained the Ali Bhan Cup as holders after drawing 3-3 with the Strathglass second team in their 2pm throw up at Cannich. Glen’s Chris Mack was the man of the match.
Strathglass 3 Glenurquhart 0 Strathglass Women took the MacLennan Quaich, defeating their Glenurquhart counterparts 3-0 in their noon throw up at Cannich. Glenurquhart started well, so much so that the opening Strath goal came against the run of play. However Strathglass were deserved winners in the game. |
