06 May 2013 The wet weather took its toll on the shinty fixtures on Saturday 4 May 2013 with just thirteen of the scheduled twenty six games going ahead.
Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup – First Round Taynuilt 1 Skye Camanachd 3 Skye Camanachd secured a place in Monday’s quarter-final draw with a 3-1 win at Taynuilt. Iain Murray started in attack for the Islanders following his scoring substitute appearance against Strathglass last weekend and he put Skye in front after 12 minutes. Steven Morrison was another who began the game up front in a revamped Islanders forward line and he made it 2-0 after 34 minutes. Kenny Campbell gave Skye a comfortable 3-0 lead after 52 minutes and although Steven Parr pulled a 62 minute goal back from the penalty spot after referee Dunkie Kerr penalised Skye keeper Michael Nicolson, Skye saw out the remainder of the game to claim a deserved 3-1 victory.
Inverness 0 Glenorchy 1 Glenorchy beat Inverness 1-0 in their 3pm throw up at the Bught Park. Steven Turner scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot after 67 minutes. Inverness had full centre Mark Sproule red carded by referee Neil Ferguson.
Kilmory 1 Strachur 4 Strachur were 4-1 winners at Kilmory, Ian Robertson was on target for the home side but goals from Rhys Campbell, Ian Wilson twice and Duncan Smart put Strachur through to the next round.
Kilmallie P Glasgow Mid Argyll P The tie between North Division 1 Kilmallie and South Division 1 leaders Glasgow Mid Argyll at the Canal Parks was controversially postponed just ahead of the 3pm throw because of a water-logged pitch.
Beauly P Strathglass P Beauly and Strathglass will have to wait for another week to try and secure a place in the second round as an unplayable Braeview Park meant the tie was postponed.
Caberfeidh P Oban Celtic P The tie between Caberfeidh and Oban Celtic was postponed as Castle Leod was unplayable. With Oban Celtic involved in the Artemis Macaulay Cup, this tie will now likely take place in a fortnight’s time.
Orion Group Premiership Kyles Athletic 1 Lovat 2 Lovat go top of the Orion Group Premiership with a 2-1 win over Kyles Athletic at Tighnabruaich. Throw up was delayed until 5pm as Lovat had travel difficulties because of a couple of road accident. Lorne MacKay gave Lovat the lead on 13 minutes but a rare Zak Coley goal made it 1-1 on 27 minutes. Owen Ferguson scored what proved to be the winner on 74 minutes. Lovat go a point clear of Newtonmore at the top of the table although the reigning champions have two games in hand.
Glenurquhart 2 Kingussie 1 First half goals from Neale Reid on 34 minutes and Ewan Brady 3 minutes from the interval gave Glenurquhart a 2-1 win over Kingussie at Blairbeg. Thomas Borthwick pulled a goal back for the Kings in the final minute when referee Innes Wood awarded the visitors a penalty for a kick. Glenurquhart had international defender Andrew Corrigan in their side whilst Kingussie’s Lee Bain was still out with a hamstring injury. The win takes the Glen level on points with Kingussie and Kyles Athletic.
Oban Camanachd 3 Lochaber 3 The bottom two clubs, Oban Camanachd and Lochaber shared the points in a thrilling 3-3 draw at Mossfield. Garry Lord gave Oban Camanachd the lead after 15 minutes only for Ben Delaney to level after 28 minutes. Lochaber played Neil MacDonald in a more offensive position and he put the visitors ahead after 32 minutes. However Andrew MacCuish equalised to make it 2-2 just 4 minutes before the break. Neil MacDonald got his second goal of the afternoon on 68 minutes but with just 3 minutes remaining, Andrew MacCuish’s second strike of the afternoon rescued a point for Oban Camanachd. The result probably suits neither side as they remain in the relegation positions.
Newtonmore P Fort William P A covering of water on the Eilan led to the postponement of the game between Newtonmore and Fort William.
Inveraray P Kinlochshiel P The game between Kinlochshiel and Inveraray was switched to the Winterton as the pitch at Kirkton was deemed unplayable on Friday evening. However the Winterton failed a Saturday morning pitch inspection so the match didn’t go ahead.
Marine Harvest South Division 1 Lochside Rovers 4 Aberdour 1 Lochside Rovers beat Aberdour 4-1 in Oban. The prolific Brian MacCallum grabbed a hat-trick for Lochside with Sean Morgan getting the other. A Darren Coyle penalty counted for Aberdour.
Marine Harvest North Division 2 Lovat 2 Glengarry 1 Lovat stay out in front in Marine Harvest North Division 2 with a hard fought 2-1 win over Glengarry at Balgate. Daniel MacLennan gave Glengarry the lead on the half hour mark and Lovat left it late before turning the game around. Rory Campbell squared the contest on 75 minutes with Euan Ferguson getting what proved to be the winner just 9 minutes from time.
Fort William 2 Newtonmore 3 Davie Duncan gave Fort William a 15 minute lead against Newtonmore at An Aird. A Donald Walker own goal drew the sides level after 35 minutes and Calum Stewart put ‘More in front on 57 minutes. The Fort had Gordie MacKinnon returning following a hand injury and he made in 2-2 just 10 minutes from time. However the reigning champions were not to be denied and young forward Sam Richardson prodded the ball home following a goal mouth scramble just 2 minutes from time. Conor Jones missed a penalty for the visitors.
Skye Camanachd 3 Aberdeen University 1 Skye Camanachd ran out 3-1 winners against Aberdeen University at a wet and windy Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. Angie MacDonald finished off a good move involving Paul MacKinnon and Ally MacDonald to give Skye an 8minute lead. Ally MacDonald helped himself to the second on 23 minutes to double Skye’s advantage at the break. Willie Hunter pulled a goal back for the Students when he scored from a corner on 61 minutes. However Angie MacDonald got his second just 4 minutes later to make it 3-1 and seal the points.
Kingussie P Glenurquhart P The Dell was unplayable which led to the postponement of the game between Kingussie and Glenurquhart.
Beauly P Kinlochshiel P The pitch at Braeview Park was unable to host the noon meeting between Beauly and Kinlochshiel.
Marine Harvest South Division 2 Col Glen W/O Aberdour Col Glen were given the points for their match against Aberdour as the visitors were unable to raise a team.
Bute P Ballachulish P The match between Bute and Ballachulish also fell foul of the wet weather and was postponed..
Inveraray P Glasgow Mid Argyll P The match between Inveraray and Glasgow Mid Argyll was postponed because the Winterton was unplayable.
Kyles Athletic P Tayforth P League leaders Kyles Athletic were unable to play Tayforth as the pitch at Tighnabruaich was deemed unplayable.
Marine Harvest North Division 3 Boleskine 1 Lochcarron 4 The match between Lochcarron and Boleskine was switched to Smith Park as Battery Park was unplayable. Lochcarron continued their good run with a 4-1 win in what was a tousy encounter. Finlay Stark, Allan MacKenzie and a Gregor Cushnie double counted for Lochcarron with Ewan Fraser replying for the home side.
Lochaber 3 Caberfeidh 0 Stuart Callison gave Lochaber a 23 minute lead against Caberfeidh at Spean Bridge. Stuart Matheson made it 2-0 on 37 minutes and he added a third on 64 minutes. Lochaber go a point clear at the top of the table.
Lochbroom 0 Strathglass 5 There was also a venue switch for the game between Strathglass and Lochbroom and with Cannich ruled unplayable; the game was switched to Ullapool. Robert Geddes made the difference between the sides, scoring four times whilst Ciaran Melens getting the other.
Kilmallie P Strathspey Camanachd P The match between Kilmallie and Strathspey was postponed as the Canal Parks was unplayable.
Inverness P Lewis Camanachd P An unplayable Bught Park pitch led to the postponement of the match between Inverness and Strathspey Camanachd. |
