13 August 2022 Skye Camanachd stay second in the Mowi National Division after winning 2-0 against Strathglass at Cannich on Saturday 13 August 2022. John Gillies joined the Skye injury list whilst James Pringle was still out but Somhairle MacDonald and Archie MacDonald returned to the squad for this 2.30pm throw up. Iain MacLellan was missing whilst William James Morrison returned to the second team. This was a tough encounter for Skye; a real battle in the 27-degree heat. It was the third meeting between the sides this season and the best Strathglass performance over these games if not longer. ‘Glass goalie Adam Todd made three incredible saves during the opening 10 minutes; thwarting Ross Gordon and Jordon Murchison as Skye made the quicker start. Skye took the lead on 12 minutes with a rocket shot from Ross Gordon. Keeper Todd got his club to the ball but it dropped down and spun over the line. Strathglass responded well, going on the attack and took some good defending and a couple of excellent saves from Murphy Henderson to maintain Skye’s lead. One particular Henderson save wasn’t cleared far enough and a shot from distance came back off the crossbar. Skye rode the Strathglass attacks, going back on the front foot and Taylor Matheson and Will Cowie had chances with Jordan Murchison doubling the Islanders’ lead a minute before the interval. Some nice, quick link-up play saw the ball go from Will Cowie to Ross Gordon and then Jordan Murchison who hit an unstoppable shot high into the net to make it 2-0. The second half produced more of the same with more good saves from both keepers, especially Adam Todd who kept out a screamer from Archie Millar that was destined for the top corner of the net. Skye used their rolling substitutes regularly to maintain energy levels in the heat and both Ross MacKinnon and Ross Gordon were outstanding over the 90 minutes. This was a really difficult game in tough conditions and a welcome two points which keep Skye four points behind league leaders Beauly but with two games in hand. Next up for Skye is a league meeting with Glenurquhart in Portree on Saturday.
