Skye’s Irish Visit | |
29 January 2023 Skye Camanachd open their preseason with a trip to Dublin for a shinty / hurling clash with Na Gaeil Óga at Phoenix Park on Saturday 4 February 2023. Skye were to take on the hurlers from Setanta GAA but they had to call off due to another commitment and Na Gaeil Óga quickly stepped in. Throw-in is at noon. The players travel to Dublin on Friday 3 February 2023 with a Croke Park tour organised for Sunday 5 February 2023, before the squad make their way home. Skye boss Kenny Macleod said: “The weather will be much better than at home and this is a great opportunity to do some work with the players, get a good physical match under our belts and do a bit of team bonding into the bargain.” Defender James Morrison, who has a prior commitment, is the only omission from the first team pool of 20 players who travel to the Emerald Isle, accompanied by boss Kenny Macleod and coaches David Grant, Ewen MacKinnon and Chris Rose. The playing squad includes new signings Kenny Cushnie from Lochcarron and Sam Stubbs from Lovat. Macleod said: “I’ve been very impressed with what I’ve seen from Kenny and Sam so far. They’ve looked good in training and I’m looking forward to seeing them in match action. “Having said that, there has been a really positive response from all the players ahead of the new season. They realise that to compete in the Premiership, we have to up our game from last season. The boys have been training well and they can’t wait for the games to come round. They have also attended to off-field matters like securing individual player sponsorship and they have all paid their own way for the trip to Ireland which shows great commitment all round.” Skye travel to the Eilan to play Newtonmore on Saturday 11 February 2023 before hosting the John MacKinnon Memorial Sixes in Portree a week later. The Islanders round off their preseason programme with a derby against Kinlochshiel on Saturday 25 February 2023. The venue will be decided nearer the time. |
