Skye Given Derby HIS Sutherland Cup Draw | |
07 February 2022 The Skye Camanachd second team will play the Kinlochshiel second team in the first round of the Highland Industrial Supplies Sutherland Cup at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree. This year’s draw took place at the Culloden Battlefield and Visitor Centre on Monday 7 February 2022 with the first two rounds of this national tournament played on a regional basis. The draw was made by Garry Mackintosh, Director, HIS and Raoul Curtis-Machin Operations Manager, Culloden. Garry Mackintosh said: “2022 is the Year of Stories and there are few local stories more poignant than that of Culloden where the last battle fought on British soil took place. I have been involved in my fair share of battles in the Sutherland Cup and I’m looking forward to seeing the teams perform in the coming months.” Camanachd Association CEO, Derek Keir added: “We are fortunate that shinty is sponsored by local businesses who serve and employ people who are involved in our sport and Highland Industrial Supplies are a great example of this. We were delighted to have Culloden Battlefield involved as shinty continues to link with other pillars of Scottish heritage.” Raoul Curtis-Machin, Culloden Cluster Operations Manager said: “It was a pleasure and an honour to host the HIS Sutherland Cup shinty draw, a sport which is steeped in tradition and culture, connecting well with our conservation of Culloden Battlefield and the work of National Trust for Scotland.” The Highland Industrial Supplies Sutherland Cup is the competition with the highest number of teams involved in shinty meaning a huge number of participants are able to reap the benefits that being active has on physical and mental health.
