Shinty Foundation Course & Coach Refresher Course | |
03 December 2013 There will be a Shinty Foundation Course and a Coach Refresher Course held on Skye early in the New Year. The courses are run by Active Schools and the Camanachd Association and are designed to help anyone looking to start shinty coaching within their school or local community and current coaches who are involved in shinty and are looking to develop their skills to ensure they are delivering quality sessions.
Shinty Foundation Course This Shinty Foundation Course course will take place at Portree High School between 9.30am and 4pm on Saturday 11 January 2014. This course is designed to help any adult with limited knowledge of coaching and the game of shinty to work with youth players as an assistant coach. The emphasis is to create exciting, enjoyable, game-based activities through which the young players learn and apply the basic skills, concepts, and rules that make shinty such a great game to play. The focus will be on the skills, concepts and rules required for three "easy to play - easy to coach" games: First Shinty – 6-a-side and 9 a-side games. All candidates must be aged 16 and over to participate in the course and will have to go through a PVG check prior to starting coaching. The cost of the course is £30. Anyone interested should contact Sarah Ross at sarah.ross@highlifehighland.com by Wednesday 18 December 2013 to discuss funding options for attending the course.
Coach Refresher Course If you already have taken part in the Shinty Foundation Course and feel that you would like an update to some of your skills, then Active Schools and the Camanachd Association are also running a refresher course at the Fingal Centre, Portree between 5.30pm and 7.30pm on Friday 10 January 2014. This course will give current coaches the chance to pick up some new skills and Active Schools and the Camanachd Association are looking at the possibility of also running the UKCC Level 1 Coaching course locally. Again, anyone interested should contact Sarah Ross at sarah.ross@highlifehighland.com by Wednesday 18 December 2013. |
