Portree Primary School – MacKay Cup Final Team News | |
13 June 2014 Portree Primary School have named their squad for the 66th MacKay Cup Final in which they face Kyles Athletic at the Dell, Kingussie on Saturday 14 June 2014. The MacKay Cup is a national cup competition for Primary Schools. It was first played for 1949 and has been contested every year since. This year for the first time a new format was trialled when North and South qualifying competitions were held over one day at Strachur and Fort William on Tuesday 10 June 2014. Portree qualified from the North with Kyles Athletic winning in the South to set up a repeat of last year’s final. Portree first won the MacKay Cup in 1974 under the guidance of Skye Camanachd stalwart DR MacDonald. They did not record their second win until 2005 but they have made regular appearances in the final ever since. The current crop of Portree players are coached by David Taylor and Willie MacDonald. Throw up is at noon and Camanachd Association Grade 1 official David Mitchell is the match referee.
