John MacKinnon Memorial Shinty Sixes Squad Line-Ups – R U Over 45 - UPDATED! | |
21 December 2013 The team line-ups are now being announced for the John MacKinnon Memorial Shinty Sixes which take place at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree on Saturday 28 December 2013. Event organiser Davie MacVicar has put together a strong squad which includes his son, Neil MacVicar, and fellow first team player Allan MacKinnon. There is also a place for former Skye player Kerr Gibb. Skye U17 keeper Raymond Gillies will be in goal and one of the Skye Camanachd Ladies top performers last season, Caitlin MacLean, is included as is second team player Steven MacKinnon. The team name "R U Over 45" came about after one of the Skye first team players asked Davie MacVicar if he was aged over 45. The player in question will be sent for an eye test as soon as possible! R U Over 45 - Davie MacVicar (over45) Neil MacVicar, Caitlin MacLean (ladies), Raymond Gillies (U17), Steven MacKinnon, Allan “Ginger” MacKinnon, Kerr Gibb Event Details The John MacKinnon Memorial Sixes is an invitational tournament and the competing teams should be at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree for registration at 9.30am with the first matches throwing up at 10am The competing teams will be mainly from Skye but there will also be sides from Kinlochshiel, Lewis, Lochcarron, a veterans Kingussie side and a team from Lovat’s Gallacher family. It is looking at this stage as if there will be fourteen teams in total taking part. Each squad will have a maximum of eight players and must include an over 45 player, an U17 player and a ladies player in their squad. There will be a trophy for the winners, medals for the winners and runners up, as well as awards for the Player of the Tournament, Ladies Player of the Tournament, Over 45 Player of the Tournament and U17 Player of the Tournament. The John MacKinnon Memorial Shinty Sixes will be jointly sponsored by DA MacLennan, Kyleakin and Highland Industrial Supplies, Inverness with the shinty balls provided courtesy of the Shinty Shop.
