25 September 2022 Ross Gordon grabbed a hat-trick as Skye Camanachd remain two points off the top of the table with a game in hand after beating Glenurquhart 3-1 at Blairbeg on Saturday 24 September 2022. Skye Camanachd first team manager Kenny Macleod was without Somhairle MacDonald for this 2.30pm throw up. Skye started slowly against a stuffy and physically strong Glenurquhart side, but they took the lead 3 minutes before the break when Ross Gordon hit a low drive to beat Glen keeper Stuart MacKintosh who had a fantastic first half, keeping out three or four net-bound shots. Skye would have gone two up had it not been for another excellent Stuart MacKintosh stop, saving a high strike from Ross Gordon. Skye doubled their lead on 50 minutes with an excellent goal which came from a Jamie Gillies corner and was finished by Ross Gordon with a first-time low drive. Skye’s Will Cowie had to make a visit to Raigmore Hospital after being hit on the arm and tempers boiled over with some players taking matters into their own hands at times. Glenurquhart pulled a goal back on 65 minutes. Skye keeper Murphy Henderson saved with his foot following a corner. Referee Martin MacLean pointed to the spot with Skye claiming the keeper’s foot was planted on the ground. David MacLennan sent the spot-hit high into the net. Skye finished strongly and their fitness looked good despite the recent lay-off. Ross Gordon completed his hat-trick, sealing victory in the process, cracking another low drive home to restore the Islanders two- goal cushion on 78 minutes. Skye had their own claim for a penalty during the game when Ross Gordon was wiped out by keeper MacKintosh with a sliding challenge but the referee waved away their pleas. Veteran Chris Rose was excellent at wing centre for Skye with Ross Gordon always dangerous and making a match-winning contribution.
