Glengarry 1 Skye Camanachd 0 | |
04 April 2014 The Skye Camanachd reserve side suffered a 1-0 Marine Harvest North Division 2 defeat to Glengarry at Craigard on Saturday 29 March 2014. This match was rescheduled after it was postponed on the opening day of the shinty season because of an unplayable pitch. John Angus MacInnes and Angie MacDonald continued in charge of the Skye side and they were without keeper Raymond Gillies, Ally “Viewfield” MacLeod whilst Paul MacKinnon reduced their attacking options further when he became a late call-up for the first team. John Murphy, John MacKenzie and Kyle Pirie were late call-offs but Shaun Hedley was able to make it after initially being ruled out through work commitments and U17 forwards Stephen Murchison and Conor Ross and the more experienced Scott Martin were also included. Glengarry manager Ewen Cameron was without Daniel MacLennan who served a one match ban for a points accumulation which was carried forward from the end of last season. This was ‘Garry’s first outing of the season and after losing Michael Brady to Glenurquhart and Matthew Ross to Boleskine, they have bolstered their ranks with the addition of some experienced former Kincraig players. This was Glengarry’s first match of the season and they got off to a great, if somewhat fortuitous, start when a shot from David Noble after 8 minutes appeared to be going wide but the ball took a wicked bounce and crept just inside the post to make it 1-0. Skye enjoyed plenty of first half pressure and shots from Angie MacDonald and Stephen Murchison rose just over the bar. Glengarry talisman Steven Cameron started to dominate the middle of the park and the Islanders found it difficult to pin him down. Skye full centre Shaun Hedley had picked up an injury at work which hampered his movement and the visitors tried different players in the midfield area against the former Scotland international. Skye went on the offensive again at the beginning of the second half but they found the more experienced Glengarry defence provided a formidable physical barrier. A Stephen Murchison shot was well saved and it just didn’t look as if it would be Skye’s day. Skye introduced all three substitutes but they were unable to conjure up an equalising goal. Skye were well served by Thomas Wilson, Ally “Cleodi” MacLeod and Stephen Murchison but they certainly missed the fire-power that Ally “Viewfield” MacLeod, Paul MacKinnon and John Murphy would have provided.
