Changing Of The Guard At Skye Camanachd U14 | |
02 December 2015 There was a changing of the guard at the Skye Camanachd U14 training which took place at the Portree High School astro pitch on Wednesday 2 December 2015. Youth Coach John MacLeod stood down after four years in charge of the Skye Camanachd U14 side. During this period, the Skye youngsters won the Local League four times, they won Marine Harvest North Division 1 in 2014 and were MacMaster Cup runners-up on three occasions. John MacLeod is replaced as Youth Coach with immediate effect by former Skye Camanachd player Willie MacDonald. Speaking after the weekly coaching session, MacLeod said, “We've had some highs and some disappointments along the way but I can honestly say it's been a pleasure. I would like to thank all the parents and Portree High School for their support over the years - it has been greatly appreciated. I’d like to thank coaches Robbie Gordon, Davie Pringle, Davie Taylor, and John Angus Gillies who have all helped out. It has also been pleasing to see some of the players progressing to the second team with some now even knocking on the first team door. I look forward to watching all their progress in the future. Finally, I’d like to wish Willie MacDonald good luck as he takes over the squad.” Skye Camanachd Chairman Douglas MacDougall added, “On behalf of the wider club, I would like to pay tribute to John for his commitment to junior shinty over the last few years. The attitude of the younger players and their ongoing endeavour on the field is testament to John's training regime and this can only be good for the future of Skye Camanachd. Willie has a good solid base to build on and we will fully support him in continuing the development of junior players. It's up to the players now to continue to give their best, learn and become the players we want them all to be.” |
