05 October 2014 Skye Camanachd U14 took a big step to the Marine Harvest North Division 1 title when they beat Caberfeidh U14 11-0 at Castle Leod on Wednesday 1 October 2014. Ross Nicolson remained out for Skye with a broken thumb whilst Ross Gordon was also injured. The remainder of the squad was the same as the pool which beat Kingussie U14 2-1 at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree the previous weekend. Skye took time to settle into this 6pm throw up, played on a heavy pitch, but when they did, the goals flowed and Ruaraidh MacLeod rattled in a seven minute hat-trick with strikes on 16, 22 and 23 minutes to make it 3-0. His opener was a low shot which sneaked in at the front post. The second came after great lead up play from Anna MacDonald who slipped a pass to MacLeod who pushed the ball home past keeper Ben Bartlett. Ruaraidh MacLeod completed his hat-trick with a trademark solo goal. In-between times, Skye goalie Murphy Henderson had to look lively to clear the ball away on 18 minutes. A 24 minute shot from Ruaraidh MacLeod hit the post as Cabers struggled to contain the Skye full forward. Marcus Ross took advantage of a chance to play further forward and he bust through the Cabers defence before finishing high into the roof of the net to make it 4-0 after 27 minutes. Skye increased their advantage after 29 minutes when Anna MacDonald made a great solo run, beating three defenders and slotting the ball past Ben Bartlett to make it 5-0. Skye added another on 31 minutes when Ruaraidh MacLeod finished from close range to make it 6-0. Skye lost Stewart Taylor through injury a couple of minutes later and he replaced by Mark MacQueen. Skye made a confident start to the second half and Ruaraidh MacLeod completed his double hat-trick with both a neat finish on 38 minutes to make it 7-0 and a low shot from 15 yards a couple of minutes later. Skye made further changes with Jack Henderson coming on for Ryan MacAskill and Martin Pringle replacing Ruaraidh MacLeod. Skye shuffled the team about with John Gillies moving to full forward and Marcus Ross dropping back to defence. John Gillies got onto the scoresheet when he latched onto a loose ball before finishing on 51 minutes to make it 9-0. Anna MacDonald made it ten a couple of minutes later when she shot home from 10 yards. John Gillies completed the scoring when he darted through the Cabers defence to make it 11-0 on the hour mark. Skye lost Angus MacDonald a minute later through injury so Ruaraidh MacLeod was re-introduced onto the field of play. There was a late chance for Caberfeidh 3 minutes from time but they were denied a consolation goal when Murphy Henderson saved well. This was a solid Skye performance after a slow start. Marcus Ross and James Morrison performed well in defence whilst Emma Gordon continued her fine form in the centre line. Anna MacDonald and Ruaraidh MacLeod combined well in attack to cause problems for Cabers defence. Kingussie U14’s defeat by Fort William U14 means that the Skye youngsters will be presented with the Marine Harvest North Division 1 trophy following their final game of the season against Caberfeidh U14 at Pairc nan Laoch, Portree.
