Beauly 0 Skye Camanachd 5 | |
26 February 2018 Skye Camanachd took the field for the first time this year, beating Beauly 5-0 in their 1pm throw up at Braeview Park on Saturday 24 February 2018. Whilst Beauly had already appeared pre-season, this was fourth time lucky for Skye as the wet weather had wiped out their pre-season programme so far. Skye took the lead after 6 minutes when Ruaraidh MacLeod was slipped in by Jordan Murchison and MacLeod finished well into the top corner from 15 yards out for what was his first goal at senior level. Skye keeper Ryan Morrison was called into action a minute later, making a great save with feet whilst, at the other end, Will Cowie shot wide on 9 minutes. James Pringle made it 2-0 after 13 minutes. Pringle went on a great solo run from half-way line and he beat the keeper with great finish. Will Cowie and Ruaraidh MacLeod both sent efforts past the post before Ryan Morrison made another good stop; this time with his hand with 28 minutes on the clock. The game continued to flow from end to end as Jordan Murchison sent a low effort the wrong side of the post on 38 minutes whilst Beauly keeper Josh Grant saves well from Ruaraidh MacLeod a couple of minutes later. Ryan Morrison twice had to look lively late in the half and Skye took their 2-0 advantage into the break. Skye manager John MacLeod made a planned change at the interval with Iain MacLeod taking over from Ryan Morrison in goal. Skye created three openings in the first 3 minutes of the second half. First, full centre Danny Morrison sent a shot over the top before Iain MacLellan’s low drive was saved by Josh Grant and the keeper thwarted Will Cowie 60 seconds later. The second half was just 11 minutes old when Iain MacLellan tucked a back-hand finish past Josh Grant, beating the keeper from 15 yards out. The goalmouth action continued as Iain MacLeod saved from well from Connor Ross on the hour. Ross Gordon made his first team debut a couple of minutes later, replacing Iain MacLellan in attack. Josh Grant made another great save on 64 minutes. Iain Murray replaced Kenny Campbell on 65 minutes with Daniel Morrison taking over from Ruaraidh MacLeod just 3 minutes later. Jamie Gillies made his first team debut in defence on 74 minutes with Ally “Cleodi” MacLeod withdrawn. A great turn by Ross Gordon ended with a pass to Jordan Murchison on 76 minutes. Murchison juggled the ball with his back to goal before turning and smashing the dropping ball on his back-hand from 20 yards out, past a helpless keeper. A minute later, Ruaraidh MacLeod nipped in between a defender keeper Josh Grant to make it 5-0. Ally MacDonald came on for Connor Gilpin in defence with 10 minutes remaining. The win sets Skye up for the Marine Harvest Premiership opener against Oban Camanachd at Mossfield this coming Saturday.
