2012 Lovat Cup – Lovat v Beauly – Match Preview. | |
01 January 2012 A huge crowd is expected for the 2012 Lovat Cup match between deadly rivals Lovat and Beauly which takes place at Balgate on Monday 2 January 2012. Beauly were seconds away from lifting the 2011 trophy until an injury time Greg Matheson goal gave Lovat a 2-2 and they retained the trophy as holders. Lovat endured a stop-start 2011 Scottish Hydro Premier Division campaign which extended into November. Their players have had a break since then but they have recently re-grouped under new manager Allan MacRae and they have had a couple of recent training sessions to prepare for the New Year clash. The match will come too soon for Fraser Gallacher who missed the second half of their season through illness. Scotland U21 international James MacPherson has been suffering from flu but he is expected to recover to take his place in the side. Beauly have not won the Lovat Cup since 2007 but they have been training hard since their 2011 Marine Harvest North Division 1 programme ended. They will miss the presence of the injured Sean Stewart in attack but manager Stephen MacLean will have been pleased to see Conor Cormack and David MacLean perform so well for the Scotland U21 side. Throw up is at 1pm and Graham Cameron is the match referee. |
