2011 Mòd Cup …………. 5 Days to Go! | |
10 October 2011 The 2011 Royal National Mòd will open with the Mòd Cup shinty match between Uist Camanachd and Lewis Camanachd at Sgoil Lionacleit, Benbecula on Saturday 15 October 2011. The Mod Cup takes place annually between the two sides local to the Gaelic music festival and this year’s game is a fitting start to Mòd nan Eilean Siar. Both teams have had historic seasons, entering new, challenging, mainland competitions. Lewis ended the season propping up Marine Harvest North Division 3 but impressed many observers with a strong debut season whilst Uist put in some excellent showings in the Camanachd Association’s Development League, finishing second in their first tournament. Games between these two island rivals are always close affairs, but Uist may have the edge with history on their side as a Lewis based side has never won the trophy. Uist were convincing winners when the clubs last met for this trophy, winning 3-0 back in 2005. This year’s Mòd Cup is sponsored by MG ALBA and throw up is at 11am. |
