Artemis Macaulay Primary School Sixes Tournament | |
14 June 2011 The Artemis Macaulay Primary School Sixes Tournament took place in the sunshine at Mossfield Park, Oban on Saturday 11 June 2011. An impressive 44 teams entered the various competitions with over 300 children playing shinty on the day. The competition provided a fine stage for the future talent of shinty to display their skills. Ian Cummings Memorial Trophy Quarter Finals Park 0 Caol 1 Banavie 2 Newtonmore 0 St Columba’s 1 Kingussie 0 Achnacreige 0 Teanassie 1 Semi Finals St Columba’s 5 Caol 1 Teanassie 0 Banavie 1 Final St Columba’s 2 Banavie 1 The Ian Cummings Memorial Trophy for Primary 6/7 players was won for the second year running by St Columba’s who defeated Banavie 2-1 in a final filled with fast shinty which swung from end to end. Alastair Campbell Shield Semi Finals Glasgow Gaels 1 Ccl 1 (Glasgow Gaels won 2-1 after extra time ) Tomonie Tigers 4 Braxi Boys 0 Final Tomonie Tigers 6 Glasgow Gaels 0 The Alastair Campbell Shield for Primary 5 and under players went to the younger team from Banavie, Tomonie Tigers, who proved too strong for a young side from Glasgow Gaelic School. The Lochaber outfit ran out 6-0 winners. Peter English Trophy The Peter English Trophy this year was awarded to Teanassie from Strathglass who showed the greatest sportsmanship and endeavour. Shona MacKay of Glasgow Gaels was named Best Girls Player whilst the Best Boys Player was Teanassie’s Ruairidh Strachan. At commencement of play, each school was presented with a First Aid Kit courtesy of Artemis and at close of play presentation of trophies and awards was undertaken by Mrs Alison Mowatt, daughter of the late Alastair Campbell to whom this year’s event was dedicated . |
