Lochcarron 0 Skye Camanachd 1. | |
03 April 2010 Skye Camanachd are through to the second round of the MacTavish Cup following their 1-0 win over Lochcarron at Battery Park on Saturday 3 April 2010.
Skye Camanachd first team manager Aonghas MacDonald welcomed wing centre Kerr Gibb back into the side but playmaker Somhairle MacDonald was unavailable.
Kenny Campbell and John Moir were still out injured and Ally MacLennan was unavailable once again.
Skye had the best of the first half chances and their forward line looked particularly impressive during the first 30 minutes. However they were unable to convert their opportunities into goals with several shots flying wide of the target.
Skye eventually took the lead on 53 minutes when Allan MacKinnon fired the ball into the back of the net.
This cup tie was by no means one way traffic and if Skye had shaded the first half, the second period was a much more even affair with Murdo John Fraser’s side creating plenty chances.
One such home side attack saw Skye keeper Jamie Gannon make a brilliant point blank save from Lochcarron’s forward Finlay Stark.
Skye moved Gilleasbuig MacDonald into the forward line with Dougie Rankin taking up the full centre berth. The moved helped the Skye forwards retain possession further up the park.
Skye replaced scorer Allan MacKinnon with fellow forward Danny Morrison.
Lochcarron introduced 47 year old Davie “Ham” MacKenzie, who had scored twice for their second team in their noon throw up league victory over Strathglass.
Best for the Islanders were Allan MacLeod, Kerr Gibb and Gilleasbuig MacDonald.
Skye will now face Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup winners Fort William in the MacTavish Cup quarter finals at Pairc na Laoch, Portree on Saturday 1 May 2010.
