Badenoch Giants Will Contest 2011 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final | |
14 August 2011 Badenoch giants Newtonmore and Kingussie will contest the 2011 Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final following the semi finals on Saturday 13 August 2011. Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup - Semi Finals Inveraray 2 Newtonmore 5 Newtonmore through to their first Camanachd Cup Final since 1997 following their 5-2 extra time win over Inveraray at Spean Bridge. Newtonmore took an early lead through Glen MacKintosh but Inveraray levelled on 15 minutes when a Russell McKinlay effort deceived Newtonmore reserve keeper Sean MacQuarrie. Some good goalkeeping from Inveraray’s Graeme MacPherson ensured the sides went into the break all square. Russell McKinlay is rarely available for Inveraray’s away fixtures and he showed his worth when he put his side 2-1 ahead on the hour mark. However Newtonmore levelled on 75 minutes through David Cheyne who went from hero to villain when he was sent off 5 minutes later by referee Graham Cameron for an altercation with an Inveraray defender. There was no further scoring so the match went into extra time. It became eleven-a-side when Inveraray’s Euan MacMurdo was red carded a minute before the extra time interval. Newtonmore were on top despite playing for a period a man short so it was no surprise when Glen MacKintosh got his second to put his side 3-2 in front on 109 minutes. Inveraray tried to fight back but MacKintosh completed his hat-trick a couple of minutes from the end and Danny MacRae made it 5-2 just before the final whistle. Kingussie 6 Kilmallie 0 A powerful second half performance saw Kingussie come out on top in the second Scottish Hydro Camanachd Cup Final semi final with a 6-0 victory over Kilmallie. Kilmallie played with the wind in the first half and they competed well although it took a couple of outstanding saves from keeper Kevin Toye to keep them level at the break. However Kingussie exploded into action at the start of the second half. Ronald Ross put them ahead within 60 seconds of the restart and he went on to grab a 6 minute hat-trick with further strikes on 50 and 52 minutes to put the Kings 3-0 ahead with goals. His third strike was a spectacular effort where he flicked the ball up before hitting a first time backhand shot into the net. Craig Dawson on 58 minutes and Fraser Munro on 70 minutes made it 5-0 and Ross’ fourth 8 minutes from time gave Kingussie a 6-0 triumph and set up a Badenoch final at the Bught Park, Inverness on Saturday 17 September 2011. |
